Too hot / cold ?
Too Cold
- Keep external doors and windows closed where possible.
- Close curtains/blinds at dusk to stop heat disappearing out of the window!
- Keep radiators clear of obstructions – air needs to be able to flow over them freely to get the best performance.
- Avoid using electric heaters as these result in nearly twice the carbon dioxide emissions than that by gas fired central heating systems, and electricity costs 3-5 times more than gas.
- Instead of turning up heating, why not put on a jumper?
- If you have a fault with your heating report it to the Estates fault desk xt 3333.
Too Hot
- Close curtains at dust to prevent sunshine warming up a room in the morning before it is occupied.
- Avoid leaving computers and plasma screens on standby, otherwise this equipment will continue to emit heat overnight.
- Minimise use of lighting, lights give off more energy as heat than they do in the form of light. To reduce use of lighting make use of natural daylighting, and turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.
- If a room has air-conditioning, then keep the windows and doors closed. Opening windows and doors will only allow warm air in and reduce the effectiveness of the heating system.
Do not use heating and cooling simultaneously.
