Level 1 Course Information
Level 1 courses in English will introduce you to the subject and provide you with a range of reading and writing skills. These skills are essential for future English Courses, and will also be useful for students intending to specialise in other subjects. Teaching is through lecture and small group tutorial.

Level 1
The two level 1 courses for students on the English programme
- EL1008 Reading Writing - Credit Points 15
- EL1513 Controversial Classics - Credit Points 15
There are also courses in language and linguistics. These courses do not count towards your credits for the English programme, but provide a useful accompaniment to the study of literature and may be of interest.
- LN1002 Communication and Language in Contemporary Society - Credit Points 15
- EL1514 English Structure and Use - Credit Points 15
