Biography
Alexandra Lewis joined the department in 2011, having previously taught at the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick and Goldsmiths, University of London. Alexandra took her PhD in English Literature at the University of Cambridge, where she held a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust award and Trinity College research scholarship. She was University Medallist at the University of Sydney, where she completed her BA(Hons). Prior to joining the University of Aberdeen, Alexandra held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Warwick and a Visiting Research Fellowship at the Institute of English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London.
Alexandra is currently completing a book entitled Thorns in the Victorian Spirit: Trauma and the Unquiet Mind from the Brontës to George Eliot, and working on a second, Re-membering Mnemosyne: Cultural Understandings of Memory, Affect and the Novel, 1792-1910. She has published articles and reviews in Times Literary Supplement, Women: A Cultural Review, Journal of African Literature and Culture, British Association for Victorian Studies Newsletter, North American Victorian Studies Association Newsletter, eSharp and antiTHESIS, and has chapters in three edited volumes, Telling Children’s Stories: Narrative Theory and Children’s Literature, ed. Michael Cadden (Frontiers of Narrative Series, University of Nebraska Press, 2011), Acts of Memory: The Victorians and Beyond, ed. Ryan Barnett and Serena Trowbridge (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2010) and The Brontës in Context, ed. Marianne Thormählen (Cambridge University Press, in press).
