Socrates Students & Study Abroad

A period spent abroad during a degree programme, either through study or industrial experience, is a fantastic way of developing and broadening your awareness of Engineering in an international context.

The School participates in the Socrates exchange programme: Each year it welcomes students from outside the UK come to experience the challenge of studying in the UK as a part of their degree programme. These students will develop English language skills, participate in undergraduate taught courses, and develop fresh skills in a new context.

Project work is a key component of the final stages of the Undergraduate Honours programme. The School has opportunities for students to work in Industry or a remote research centre: many students travel to Europe and Singapore, and a range of locations in between. Most students return with a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and achievement from working outside their normal environment, especially in terms of confidence and maturity.
