Engineering Computing
We are committed to the use of laptop computers in all aspects of our teaching (lectures; lab work; projects).
Software
Engineering Applications are available to install on your own laptops for use on campus. You can download the software from either:
- Software Download Service
- Engineering Network Folder - Campus Access Only
- Solidworks License Borrowing - instructions how to use Solidworks off-campus
We would STRONGLY advice downloading Matlab (5GB), CES Edupack (600MB) and SolidWorks (4GB) to a usb pen-drive from a classroom PC. Then install on your laptop from the pen-drive. Once downloaded please read the 'README FIRST' file for install instructions.
Remember that Matlab, CES Edupack and SolidWorks are also available on all PC Classroom machines - look in the Engineering folder.
Hardware Support
If you have previously been issued a laptop then the following numbers can be used to check the warranty status and/or report a hardware fault :

Wireless Printing
You can print, via Eduroam wifi, from your laptop to a classroom printer. Click here for instructions.
Other Useful Software
Abaqus Student Editon is available free (after registering). Training materials are also available.
7-Zip is an excellent free compression (zip) tool
Microsoft Security Essentials is an excellent free virus-checker for Windows Vista and 7 computers.
