The research of the Group is supported by the Dynamics laboratory containing LDS V806/LS and V725 vibration excitation systems capable of exciting payloads of up to 500kg at 2.4g or smaller loads at up to 70g. These systems are complemented by other smaller vibration excitation systems and associated vibration measurement systems for acceleration, laser and eddy current transducers for displacement measurement and a variety of load measurement systems along with high-speed data acquisition systems. The Geotechnics laboratory provides experimental facilities and further vibration measurement capabilities for geotechnical dynamics studies and in particular ground anchorages. The Electrical Machines laboratory contains a wide variety of full scale electrical machines and drives which allow control strategies and condition monitoring techniques to be investigated. Access is also available to materials testing machines capable of providing controlled cyclic loading and impulse tests.
