Research Programmes
Digital Technologies
The central goal is to serve as a technology platform for developing advanced digital applications. This activity will focus on digital platforms, pervasive communications and advanced digital applications (including next generation digital TV, holographic applications, advanced visual techniques, and sensor networks). The Programme will be achieved by combining complimentary research capabilities, facilities, expertise, and skills of the subject-focused Research Institutes and Centres in the School of Engineering, and through links to national and international initiatives (e.g. networks of excellence). Interdisciplinary research will be promoted through the Rural Digital Economy hub, with links to natural resource conservation, healthcare, enterprise & culture, and accessibility and mobility threads.
Examples of current research collaborations include:
- The Aberdeen University dot.rural Digital Economy hub. The School of Engineering is a leading technology participant in this cross-disciplinary research centre spanning national and international rural arenas.
- The European Satellite Communications Network of Excellence (SatNEx). The School of Engineering represents one of 24 internationally leading institutions, in a research consortium funded by the EC and now funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). .
