Undergraduate Courses
All Honours programmes have a common core for the first two years, followed by appropriate specialised courses chosen under the guidance of an Adviser of Studies.
All the Honours programmes are accredited by the major professional engineering institutions. Students graduating at the appropriate level from an accredited programme are exempt from the academic requirements for professional membership of the relevant Engineering Institution (see Prospectus). The BEng degrees are recognised world-wide through reciprocal arrangements with the Engineering Council.
The degree of Bachelor of Science (BScEng) has less demanding admission and progress criteria but is not accredited. If you join our Foundation Course you can graduate BScEng in three or four years. Promotion to BEng and MEng is also possible if you do well, but may require another year of study.
One virtue of attending a traditional university is that teaching takes place in an atmosphere of research. Teaching staff are actively involved in funded investigations at the leading edge of their field and laboratory facilities reflect the research strengths of the School. Project work, too, will often relate to the supervisor's research interests.
