Biography
Srinivas is currently ‘The LRET Lecturer in Safety & Reliability Engineering’ at the University of Aberdeen. He has joined as a Lecturer at the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen in August 2009. Prior to that, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher (Oct 2006 - July 2009) at the University of Surrey working on CREDO (Composites Reliability from Engineering Design Optimisation) project.
Srinivas has received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras focusing on Copula based Simulations for Engineering systems. He has a Masters degree in Structural Engineering from MNNIT and was awarded the Sir. Arthur Cotton Gold Medal (2000) by Nagarjuna University, India for securing highest marks in B.Tech (Civil Engineering).

Current Research
Risk based inspection of fixed offshore platforms
This PhD studentship is funded by Lloyd’s Register.
A majority of the fixed offshore platforms in the North Sea are approaching end of their design life and there is an extensive interest in assessing their performance from a probabilistic perspective. Reliability of these structural systems depends on a wide range of uncertainties and their interactions. It is possible to quantify these effects in a risk based framework to optimise the maintenance and inspection scheduling options. The aim of this PhD project is to develop a generic tool for risk based inspection planning of fixed offshore platforms.
Stochastic Approaches for Chemical Process Performance Modelling
PhD Student: Mr Usman Abubakar (Funded by a Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship, Nigeria)
Co-Supervisor: Dr Neill C Renton
This research aims to integrate stochastic performance modelling techniques and chemical processes with a view to promote safety, reliability and economics. Performance criteria for different process systems are being developed based on experimental and numerical studies and are to be assessed with appropriate stochastic approaches.
Reliability of Blast Wall Structures
PhD Student: Mr Mohammad Hedyati
This research aims to develop a probabilistic approach for the design of blast wall structures, which are commonly used in Offshore Oil and Gas facilities. Considering the complex combinations of different uncertainties, a design basis would be developed in a stochastic finite element framework.
Stochastic Damage Modelling of Ship Collisions
PhD Student: Mr Abayomi Obisesan (Funded by one of The LRET PhD Studentships)
Co-Supervisor: Dr John Harrigan
This project will involve a mixture of deformation mechanics and reliability assessment to give an overall understanding of the safety aspects of sandwich panels employed in ship designs. The focus will be on light weight and innovative structures for safety and the environment.
Multi-Scale Damage Modelling of Fiber Reinforced Composites
(Supported by a University of Aberdeen PhD Studentship)
Co-Supervisor: Prof Igor Guz
