Principal's Prize for Public Engagement with Research

Foreword by Professor Sir Ian Diamond

“The University of Aberdeen is committed to achieving distinctive excellence across all aspects of its activities including the vital objective of engaging with society.  We have a considerable track record, with public engagement becoming ever more embedded in our core business.

Fundamentally, it is the quality and creativity of our own staff and students that make us stand out in this exciting arena.

The Public Engagement with Research Prize is one way of recognising and celebrating outstanding achievement in the field of research-led public engagement. I wish applicants every success, and encourage everyone to continue with their exemplary efforts in raising the profile of our institution."

About the Prize

The Public Engagement with Research Unit is pleased to launch the Principal's Prize for Public Engagement with Research 2013.

The Prize is intended to recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of research-led public engagement.  By research-led public engagement, we mean interaction with communities outside academia that has in the main been inspired or driven by research activity.

We plan to award a first and runner-up prize. The first prize is a personal award of £500 and a further allocation of £500 to be invested in a public engagement activity or training opportunity of the winner’s choice. The second prize will be a personal award of £250 and an allocation of £250 towards a personal development opportunity around public engagement, again of the winner’s choice.

The Prize is a measure of institutional support for public engagement with research at the University of Aberdeen, which is one of eight centres of excellence for public engagement under the RCUK’s Catalysts Scheme.

We are accepting peer-led or self nominations.  Please download the application form below, which contains a summary of the guidelines and terms of the Prize. All applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 5 April 2013. Applications should be submitted by email to peru@abdn.ac.uk stating ‘Principal’s Prize’ in the subject field. Nominees can also specify two referees.
