Spik Nae Evil is an intriguing collection of original humorous verse and short stories, written in the distinctive living dialect of the north-east of Scotland and designed to appeal to school children from 6 to 11 years of age.
The authors, Sheena Blackhall and Leslie Wheeler, have been actively involved for many years in the promotion of the Scots vernacular within schools throughout the Grampian area of Scotland, where there still exists a lively tradition of oral Scots within both rural and urban communities. Under the auspices of the University of Aberdeen's Elphinstone Institute, the authors are at present engaged in compiling a substantial package of Scottish Language materials suited to adults and children alike. Entitled The Elphinstone Kist this will shortly be published on the Internet via the Institute's website.
Sheena is currently Creative Writing Fellow with the Elphinstone Institute, while Les is Co-ordinator with the North East Heritage Trust. Both writers have an extensive range of published works but Spik Nae Evil is their first joint production.
