Students in Mathematics workshopThis area of the School of Education delivers the mathematics education components of the BEd (Hons) Primary Education, the PGDE (Primary) and the PGDE (Secondary) education programmes.

The area is staffed by lecturers who have extensive experience in teaching in Primary and Secondary schools and who have a particular interest in improving the quality of mathematics education at these levels.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is provided to teachers locally and nationally. Recent work in this area has dealt with

Recent work includes the development of a CD Rom on Using Graphic Calculators in Schools which has been issued to every secondary school in Scotland. (This work is in conjunction with Learning and Teaching Scotland and the Scottish Interactive Technology Centre.

Allan Duncan, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education, has delivered workshops on the use of the CD ROMs at the Scottish Mathematical Council's conference in Stirling (April 2004) and at the International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME-10) in Copenhagen, Denmark (July 2004).
