BEd/PGDE (Primary)
Geography is one of the components within Environmental Studies 5-14. Through a range of lectures, workshops and other learning experiences such as fieldwork, the course develops learning and teaching strategies for the main aspects of the 5-14 People and Place within these Guidelines:
- knowledge and understanding strands relating to:
- the physical environment (e.g. the weather and how it affects people's lives);
- the human environment (e.g. economic life);
- interactions between the physical and human environments (e.g. why settlements develop in particular locations),
- An important theme across all strands in People and Place 5-14 is making use of a wide variety of different maps in both fieldwork and classroom activities.
- the skill strand of preparing, carrying out and reviewing and reporting on tasks related to enquiry. Students evaluate a range of resources including texts and electronic sources such as the Internet and CD-ROMs.
- developing informed attitudes including emphasising the individual's responsibility for sustainable development and conservation. The contribution of People and Place within the Citizenship agenda is also examined in the course.
