Nexus

The formation of the Nexus research group represents an ongoing University commitment to the development of a research base aimed at providing resources for understanding current children’s services’ transformations and in particular versions of collaborative practice between professionals, recognising that this is central to bringing about enhanced outcomes for children. Nexus members are active researchers, carrying out SEED funded work, working in partnership with local authorities, presenting at national and international conferences, playing a full part in the Applied Educational Research Scheme networks and publishing widely.

As part of this commitment to examining the current changes in the provision of children’s public services in Scotland and beyond, a major aim of the group has been the sharing of research findings and to this end Nexus has successfully hosted three annual conferences on effective interagency working, bringing together academics, practitioners and local authority representatives. Building on this sound base, the group has now been awarded ESRC funding to organise two series of seminars around the UK to bring together key individuals at the forefront of this research. Nexus aims to be a fluid grouping able to respond to changes, to grow organically as its members’ interests develop and to create alliances with other research groups and centres in the University, nationally and internationally. The core aims of Nexus remain bound to the commitment to explore children’s public services’ transformations and so current strands in its research relate to education and children’s services leadership and management, policy and practice and professional identities.
