Postgraduate Research Programmes

  • MPhil, PhD and EdD
    • The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) are offered by the School of Education (which includes both the Music Department and Elphinstone Institute).  The normal procedure is for research students to be registered for an MPhil in the first instance with a view to being transferred to the PhD after at least one year's full-time study or two years' part-time study, if appropriate.   The Doctor of Education (EdD) degree is available to those who are professional educators and consists of assessed courses as well as a research thesis.
  • MRes (Social/Educational Research)
    • The Master of Research (Social/Educational Research)  is offered part-time over two years and is undertaken in conjunction with the School of Social Science. The programme is intended to provide a research training for professionals working within a range of children’s services in educational settings to enable them to become independent researchers, or as a preparation for undertaking a doctorate by thesis.
