Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) by Distance Learning

The PGDE part-time Distance Learning Programme is based on the full-time PGDE campus-based Programme with the same standards of entry* and the same expectations of performance throughout the Programme. The part-time Programme is currently delivered in partnership with a number of Local Authorities throughout much of Scotland who will provide school placements for students residing in their area for the duration of the course. It complements the full-time Programme by offering a different mode of study through the use of an online learning environment to enable participants to study at a distance and also continue with their substantive employment if desired. Although much of the Programme is studied at a distance, successful applicants are also required to attend a number of face-to-face sessions on-campus in Aberdeen and/or in their Local Authority areas. The part-time Programme requires a minimum of two years for completion. Placements in schools will be for a total of 18 weeks which is the same as the Full-time cohort but spread over the two years. This will be carried out each year in two blocks of four weeks and five weeks respectively.                            

This route is currently available only for the following subjects:-

• Primary Education.
• Secondary Education (English, Mathematics, Gaelic and Home Economics).
