Inclusive Pedagogy: Learning and Teaching for All

Courses Leaflet (pdf)

What is inclusive pedagogy?

The concept of inclusive pedagogy has been developed by studying the practice of primary and secondary classroom teachers who think about learning and teaching in a novel way. This approach acknowledges and responds to difficulties children face in their learning in ways which respect the dignity of each child/young person within the classroom community.

This perspective leads to innovative partnerships between classroom teachers and other specialists such as Additional Support Needs (ASN). It offers a framework for thinking about learning and teaching that can be used to support planning and classroom practice.

Who is this course intended?

This course is suitable for primary and secondary classroom teachers and those currently involved in ASN activities. We welcome all teachers who wish to enrol. We would be interested to attract pairs of classroom teachers/ASN teachers who are already working together, however this is not an entry requirement. This 30 credit course can contribute towards further study to either Certificate (60) credits, Diploma (120) credits or Masters (180) credits within the Advanced Professional Studies or the Inclusive Practice Programme route.

Entry Requirements

This is a post graduate course for teachers. Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, and should be currently active in a school setting.

Delivery Arrangements & Cost

The course will run from March to August. The course will adopt a blended delivery approach. Face to face delivery will take place on four Saturdays. In addition, learning and teaching will take place through web-based collaborative online activities. The cost of this course is £450.

Assessment

Participants will be expected to implement a project in their own professional setting which enacts and critically reflects upon inclusive pedagogy. A written assignment arising from this will form the basis of the assessment.
