The Programme aims to provide a response to the continuing professional development needs of fully qualified teachers, particularly those with numeracy coordinator roles within the primary and secondary sectors, who wish to advance their skills and knowledge, enhance their professional practice and extend their capacity to lead and shape change.
The aims of the programme are to enhance and extend the skills, knowledge and understanding of the participants in relation to effective teaching of numeracy. It endeavours to give experienced practitioners the time, opportunity and support to critically analyse evidence and arguments in complex and ambiguous situations; examine existing practice and make informed contributions to debates and discussions within numeracy and mathematics.
Applicants will be graduates or able to provide evidence that they can work at postgraduate level. Normal university criteria for admission will apply. In addition, applicants must be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and working in a professional context.
The programme is comprised of two double (30 SM points) courses:
Formative assessment is a feature of all courses. Formative and summative assessments are designed to arise naturally from the work. A range of assessment instruments are deployed within and across courses to ensure the validity, reliability and vitality of assessment in support of personal growth and professional development. Assignments focus directly on workplace applications.
Annual Tuition Fees 2011-2012 UK/EU students = £225 per 15 credits Overseas students= £700 per 15 credits. This fee is the fee due for the 2011-2012 academic year. An academic year is from Registration in September to 30 September the following year. Please note that tuition fees usually increase each year in line with inflation.
