Joint Degrees with Education

BEd (Primary)Our Joint MA/BSc programmes enable unique combinations that create a diverse and exciting curriculum allowing students to develop their individual strengths and fulfil their learning potential.

Teaching is an exciting and demanding job, requiring a variety of knowledge and professional skills in communication and management.  Teachers must be able to relate to other people and have the ability to exercise a considerable degree of understanding, judgement and patience.

Why A Joint Degree With Education

Joint degrees with Education are very flexible. These innovative MA and BSc Honours programmes allow students to complete a degree in a subject of their interest while at the same time meeting all the requirements for a teaching qualification for either primary or secondary teaching within four years of study. These programmes offer alternative entry routes to teaching distinct from the four year primary BEd qualification or alternatively a degree plus the one year Professional Graduate Diploma in Education.

The University of Aberdeen has an excellent reputation across Scotland for all its ITE and continuous professional development provision.  The School provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Music and Music Education and is one of the leading providers of Gaelic Education.  A wide range of professional learning and development opportunities are offered which take account of national priorities.  Further information about the range of activity which the school covers can be found at www.abdn.ac.uk/education.

Currently the following degree options are available:

Joint MA(Hons) with Education degree programmes

Joint BSc(Hons) with Education degree programmes

Designated BSc Degree

Subject courses in this degree are studed alongside other undergraduate students. Students are also required to take compulsory education courses, which includes some field work, from year one.
