A Call for Papers

The Chess in the Schools and Communites International Conference(CISCCON) has a web site that outlines the framework and dates etc. of this conference. The planning group has been formed from Aberdeen City Council, Scottish Junior Chess and the School of Education.

The conference will be based at the University of Aberdeen from 30th August - 1st September 2007. Key speakers include: Marley Kaplan: Chief Executive, Chess in the Schools New York. Susan Polgar: First female Chess Grandmaster, four times World Women's Champion, also based in New York. Alison Green, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the Open University, researching chess and cognition, specifically problem solving and critical thinking. Virginia Morrow, Institute of Education University of London, researching the sociology of childhood, social and cultural capital, children's agency and children's rights. Kate Philip, Senior Research Fellow, Rowan Group, Aberdeen University's School of Education, researching mentoring, health and well being of children and young people.
