Programme Design & Structure
The programme aims to provide practitioners with learning opportunities, resources and structured practical experience supported by reflection on practice that will enhance professional awareness and personal effectiveness and provide a recognised professional qualification.
The professional training in Social Pedagogy encompasses the following:
- a sound knowledge of the holistic understanding of the human being
- an understanding of human life course development
- an understanding of general social pedagogical principles, theories and approaches
- an ever-expanding repertoire of practical social pedagogical attitudes, skills and methods
- social and organisational skills to facilitate working in and building community
- the ability to work within the professional, social-political and regulatory context of the field
- the ability to work in partnership with parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals
- the ability to develop trusting and positive relationships
- the creative ability to develop new ideas for transformative action
- personal and professional development.
The full honours programme is delivered in four years. Students have the option of exiting with Certificate, Diploma, Degree in Social Pedagogy.
Professional Recognition
The degree and its associated awards are accepted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as professionally recognised qualifications for workers in the care sector.
