Maps and directions:

The conference will be held in the of the University of Aberdeen. A map and directions are available here. Please refer to the following two websites for information on travelling from the airport to the university and the city centre. The buses run quite regularly from the airport but there is no direct link to the university, the journey would involve a bus into the city centre (around 15-20 mins) and then another bus from the city center to the university (5mins).

ECOSUMMER Project Overview

  • The Marine EcoSystems and Sustainability (MESS) conference is related to a Marie Curie training project for early stage researchers. The overall theme of this project is the ECOsystem approach to SUstainable Management of the Marine Environment and its living Resources (ECOSUMMER).
  • The project partners are a consortium of eight universities and marine science institutes within the UK, Spain and Greece, including the University of Aberdeen, Marine Scotland (formerly Fisheries Research Services) Marine Laboratory (UK), Scottish Association for Marine Science (UK), Institute of Marine Biological Resources (Greece), Centro Oceanográfico de Vigo (Instituto Español de Oceanografia, Spain), University of Vigo (Spain), University of the Aegean (Greece) and Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (CSIC, Spain).
  • The project has been running for 4 years and has been funded by the EU as part of the Framework 6 programme.
  • The project has trained over 20 postgraduates, mostly registered for PhDs. Their individual projects cover a wide range of research topics directly or indirectly related to the theme of sustainable management of marine ecosystems, including life history biology, population, community and ecosystem ecology, immunology, physiology, molecular genetics, stock assessment, fishery and coastal zone management, fisheries economics, physical oceanography and marine GIS.
