Marie Curie ECOSUMMER Quick Info
for Applicants
- In all cases, you must meet the mobility
criteria in order to apply for a Marie Curie Fellowship through ECOSUMMER.
- The fellowships we offer are only for “Early Stage researchers”,
i.e. people who do not already have a PhD and who have less than four years
postgraduate reearch experience.
- Early stage researchers from non-EU countries/member states
may be eligible to apply, although the EU requires that at least 70% of awards
go to European applicants.
- If you are already a registered PhD student, you may apply
for short research stays (3 months or more) in one or more ECOSUMMER
institutions.
- If you are not a registered PhD student, you may apply
for long stays (up to 36 months), or one or more short stays, based in one
or more ECOSUMMER institutions.
- If you are not a registered PhD student, and are successful
in obtaining a Marie Curie fellowship, you may then register for a PhD.
- The ECOSUMMER Marie Curie training site program aims to
provide research training. Although short courses in research methods will
be available, most of your training period will be spent carrying out an individual
research project.
- You need to identify a research theme offered by ECOSUMMER
institutions in Aberdeen, UK
/ Vigo,
Spain / Crete or Lesvos, Greece
- Get in contact with people in the ECOSUMMER
institution(s) of your choice and let them know you are interested in receiving
research training on your chosen theme.
- Organise your application material including
a proposal that is related to the general ECOSUMMER theme and in collaboration
with your ECOSUMMER contacts.
- Proposals for training in more than one ECOSUMMER institution
will be favored, but we would also like to receive proposals for training
based in one institution.
Additional Notes for Successful
Applicants
- If you are not already registered for a PhD and you have
been awarded a long stay fellowship, we prefer that you register for a PhD,
and that you register at one of the ECOSUMMER universities (although it is
possible to register elsewhere).
- Trainees staying at least 12 months, who are not already
registered for a higher degree, will have the option of registering for an
MSc by research.
- Although most university years start in the autumn, and most
PhD studentships are based on this timetable, ECOSUMMER trainees may start
their PhDs (or MScs) at any time during the calendar year. The process of
enrollment for a PhD will begin after your Marie Curie fellowship has been
confirmed.
- All trainees will be required to write regular reports and
will be expected to attend relevant training courses. Trainees registered
for a PhD or MSc will also be expected to comply with the relevant degree
regulations (e.g. in Aberdeen, all PhD students must submit a report for assessment
after 9 months).
