Centre for European Labour Market Research
Economics has a well-established tradition of
research in labour market economics that has been built over many
years. The research programme that has evolved reflects both the
interests of the contributors and the issues that have exercised
scholars in this field of investigation. The work that has been
undertaken and published in recent years, and the programme of
work proposed for the future, can be grouped into four separate
and coherent programmes. They are:
The Centre's activities include workshop series and the publication of its own discussion paper series. It also supports graduate student research and sponsors visiting scholars.
The Centre for European Labour Market Research was established in January 2000, and was formally launched in November 2000. From 1 August 2002, CELMR became part of the University of Aberdeen Business School (UABS). CELMR has emerged as one of the strong disciplinary research groups in the School. The Centre has also greatly enhanced its links with the Medical School through its collaboration with the Health Economics Research Unit (HERU: www.abdn.ac.uk/heru/) and with the School of Biological Sciences, (Zoology: www.abdn.ac.uk/biologicalsci/).
The Centre has consolidated its reputation for high quality and policy relevant research. The Centre has provides important services for its members. These include on-line data sets service, which permit substantial savings in data management time, and annual workshops, which disseminate new techniques and develop the knowledge base of its membership and associated workshops for the PhD research students aimed at improving their research outcomes and promoting their presentational skills. The Centre welcomes others from within the School and the wider University to contribute to and benefit from its activities and services.
Aims and Objectives of the Centre
- To provide a focus for the identification and implementation of high quality research projects in labour market economics
- To make a substantive contribution both to academic understanding and to policy debate on labour market issues within the UK and the European Union.
- To develop and evolve a coherent research agenda and create a framework for the acquisition of funding to undertake and expand the research agenda
- To provide a structure within which interested individuals and groups can provide mutual support in advancing their research and create a structure within which young researchers can obtain help and advice
- To create a structure conducive to postgraduate study
- To provide a link with other scholars, commercial interests and governments in both the UK and European Union
- To develop European and international links of the highest possible quality with a view to collaborative research and the exchange of personnel in order to establish a major focus of activity on a European scale
