Iain Torrance was formerly a parish minister in the Shetland Islands, and subsequently a lecturer at the University of Birmingham. At the University of Aberdeen he held a Personal Chair in Patristics and Christian Ethics and served a term as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Divinity before his appointment as President of Princeton Theological Seminary. He served as President of the Aberdeen Association of University Teachers, and was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland 2003-4. He has been a member of the international dialogue between the World Alliance of Reformed Churches and the Orthodox Church since 1992, and he is a Chaplain to The Queen in Scotland. He is a coeditor of the Scottish Journal of Theology.
