Gabriele Marranci

After training as an anthropologist in his native Italy, Dr Marranci moved to Aberdeen in 2003 to take up a position as Lecturer in Religious Studies. In 2008, he was appointed Associate Professor in the Anthropology of Islam at the University of Western Sydney. He also is a Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. His research interests include the role of religion in identity formation, Muslim migration/immigration, fundamentalism, political Islam, and criminology. He is a founding editor of the journal Contemporary Islam.
