Jump to: BiographyI come from Wellington, New Zealand, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and History (First) and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies (Distinction) at Victoria University of Wellington. My interests in theological ethics partly emerged out of practical involvements in youth work and community development throughout my studies, in particular with the Urban Vision community. Following my studies at Victoria I worked as an educator and researcher for the Anglican Social Justice Commission of Aotearoa/ New Zealand for two years. More recently, I have been at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where I completed my doctorate on the ecclesiology and ethics of Dietrich Bonhoeffer with Gerald McKenny as my supervisor (my wider committee included Cyril O’Regan, Jennifer Herdt and Robin Lovin). While at Notre Dame I was involved with the work of the Sant’ Egidio community at the Cardinal Nursing Home. I am married to Ruth and we have an energetic son Lawrence, who is about to get much better at sleeping through the night! ^ top Research InterestsMy research is in the area of Christian ethics in the context of nineteenth and early twentieth-century German theology and philosophy. I am currently revising my dissertation, which is a retrieval of the theology of Bonhoeffer's early work on eccleiology. I have additional interests and research in the areas of ecclesiology and ethics, theology and disability studies, bioethics, and political theology. ^ top CollaborationsEditor, with Adam Clark, Ontology and Ethics: Bonhoeffer and Contemporary Scholarship.
