Professor McGowan is Minister of Inverness East Church of Scotland and UHI Professor of Theology. He was the founding Principal of Highland Theological College UHI.
Research Interests
Professor McGowan's main research interest is in the historical development of Reformed theology, particularly Scottish theology. He is currently working on a reconstruction of the old 'covenant theology' system into a new schema which he is calling 'Headship Theology.' He is also concerned to present Reformed Theology as a 'school of thought' rather than as a single strand of thought, so as to recover the richness of European Reformed theology and liberate it from captivity to narrow, 'single strand' thinking.
