References for postgraduate study

We are grateful to those who take the time to provide academic references for applicants to the University of Aberdeen. We request that referees explain:

• the capacity in which they have known the student
• personal characteristics that prepare the student for the degree for which they are applying
• academic experience that prepares the student for the degree for which they are applying
• specific content of the most relevant courses (e.g. literature read, theories considered, length of assignments)
• the applicant’s merits in relation to other students taught (e.g. top 5% of 200; whether others who performed similarly have successfully pursued graduate studies, and, if so, where.)
