References for postgraduate study
We are grateful to those who take the time to provide academic references for applicants to the University of Aberdeen. We request that referees explain:
- the capacity in which they have known the student
- personal characteristics that prepare the student for the degree for which they are applying
- academic experience that prepares the student for the degree for which they are applying
- specific content of the most relevant courses (e.g. literature read, theories considered, length of assignments)
- the applicant’s merits in relation to other students taught (e.g. top 5% of 200; whether others who performed similarly have successfully pursued graduate studies, and, if so, where.)
