Master of Theology (MTh) in Divinity and Religious Studies

The taught degree of MTh gives students the opportunity of theological study at a more advanced level than an undergraduate degree, whether as an end in itself or as an appropriate preparation for postgraduate research. This inter-disciplinary degree can also be useful for people who want to teach RE or go into librarianship.

SYLLABUS

The programme consistas of the following components:

Two research training courses:

  • Theology in the University
  • Dissertation Colloquium and Research Skills

Two elective courses chosen from these subject areas in Divinity and Religious Studies:

  • Practical Theology
  • Church History
  • Systematic Theology
  • Religious Studies
  • Biblical Studies

A dissertation of 20,000 words on a topic related to the degree.

The degree may be awarded with designation on a particular discipline, according to the courses taken.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for M.Th. degrees normally need an upper-second Honours degree in Divinity or Religious Studies or an equivalent degree (including two years of Greek and preferably one year of Hebrew as well). For international students, proof of proficiency in English is required.  The accepted certificates and minimum scores are as follows: IELTS overall score 6.5 which must include Listening 5.5 or above, Reading 6.0 or above, Speaking 5.5 or above; Writing 6.0 or above.

Applicants must furnish the University with transcripts of their previous academic study and also with the names of two academic referees; applicants may also send the reference letters, in signed sealed envelopes, with the application.
