Systematic Theology Changes: McFarland to Candler, Wood and Ziegler to Aberdeen

At the end of July Dr Ian McFarland left his position as Senior Lecturer in Systematic Theology at Aberdeen to Candler School of Theology. Although Ian had made no secret of the fact that he intended one day to return to the USA, he will still be much missed by colleagues and students alike. He has been highly appreciated as a lively lecturer, active researcher and stimulating contributor to seminars. He also held the post of Director of Undergraduate Programmes (there are only seven DUPs in the University). This involved acquiring an immense amount of knowledge about University regulations. We wish him every success at Candler.

The School has responded to Ian's departure by appointing two new systematic theologians: Dr Donald Wood (from September 2005) and Dr Philip Ziegler (from January 2006). Dr Wood's Oxford DPhil was entitled 'The ethics of interpretation in the early Barth'. His book Barth's Theology of Interpretation will be published by Ashgate. Dr Ziegler is currently Assistant professor of Systematic Theology, Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, Nova Scotia. His ThD was from the University of Toronto. His books are Doing Theology When God is Forgotten—The Theological Achievement of Wolf Kroetke (Land, 2005) and Dietrich Bonhoeffer—Theologian of the Word of God (forthcoming, Ashgate).
