About the Department | Undergraduate Study | Postgraduate Study | Staff Directory | News & Events Aberdeen makes two new appointments in Old Testament/Hebrew BibleThe University was recently very pleased to be able to appoint Dr Joachim Schaper as Reader in Old Testament and Dr Lena-Sofia Tiemeyer as Lecturer in Old Testament, both from September 2005. Dr Schaper has established an international reputation for his publications in both English and German, which include the following monographs: Eschatology in the Greek Psalter (Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zum Neuen Testament II/76; Tübingen, 1995), Priester und Leviten im achämenidischen Juda (Forschungen zum Alten Testament 31; Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2000) and „Wie der Hirsch lechzt nach frischem Wasser . . .“: Literarische, biblisch-theologische und religionsgeschichtliche Studien zu Psalm 42/43 (Biblisch-theologische Studien 63; Neukirchen-Vluyn: Neukirchener Verlag, 2004). Dr Tiemeyer completed her D.Phil. (Oxon) in 2002 and has held lecturing positions at both the University of Birmingham, UK, and at the George Fox Evangelical Seminary, Oregon. Her articles include 'Compelled by Honour - A New Interpretation of Zechariah II 12A (8A)', Vetus Testamentum 54 (2004) 352-72 and 'The Haughtiness of the Priesthood (Isa 65,5)', Biblica 85 (2004), pp. 237-44. In addition to wide experience within OT studies she has also received extensive training in Assyriology and in Semitics. These two appointments represent a substantial increase in Biblical Studies in Aberdeen. The number of full staff in Biblical Studies now stands at seven. The appointments have been made in part to allow the University to respond to the increasing number of post-graduate students within Biblical Studies.
