Keeping in touch is important when you're living away from home. Therefore, the University of Aberdeen is pleased to offer you a convenient and cost effective way of staying in contact with your friends and family.
About the service
The service is based on the purchase of pre-paid calling cards. By dialling an access code and using the unique authorisation PIN detailed on the calling card, the service enables you to call local, national and international numbers at any time of the day or night, from a telephone extension in your University residence (Hillhead Halls, Crombie Hall, Johnston Hall and Elphinstone Road Hall) or any other University of Aberdeen extension.
There is no connection fee or monthly charge - you only pay for the calls you make. Call rates are similar to BT Residential Base Rate - substantially cheaper than BT Chargecards and Public Payphones.
Calls made between extensions throughout the University and Residences are free.
Purchasing cards
Cards are priced at £2, £10 and £20 and may be purchased from any of the following University locations:
- Crombie Porter's Desk (24 hour)
- Hillhead Reception (9 to 5, Mon to Fri)
- Hillhead Porter's Lodge (24 hour)
Making a call
- From any University or Residence extension dial: 6161
- Enter the 12 digit PIN printed on the back of your pre-paid card.
- For UK calls dial: STD Code + Number
For International calls dial: 00 + Country Code + Area Code + Number
When you have finished your call you can replace the handset or you can make another call (a follow-on call) without re-entering your PIN by pressing the # key.
Please note that only the University telephone card can be used from University or Residence extensions. Other pre-paid telephone cards will not work.
Receiving incoming calls
You may also receive incoming calls at any University residence. There is no connection fee required to use this service.
Your callers should dial 0870 050 9777 and then, when greeted by the automatic answering service, should dial the extension number they require. Calls to this number cost 6p per minute during the day and 1.5p per minute evenings and weekends from a standard BT line. Charges from other providers may vary.
