Check your spelling and grammar with Ginger

06 April 2012

Want to hone your proofreading skills? Why not give Ginger a go!

Ginger is an exceptional little grammar and spell checker tool – what’s more, as from January this year, it’s free!

Ginger uses a contextual error checking engine that we have found to be as accurate and effective as many traditional checkers. It’s also very simple to use. A small control bar appears when you’re using a compatible application, such as MS Word or PowerPoint. You simply press F2 to start the process and Ginger will identify spelling errors and/or grammatical mistakes and suggest corrections.

  • This software may be particularly useful to students for whom English is not their first language.
  • The premium version of Ginger is available on all classroom computers via the Assistive Technology folder on the Desktop. This version includes a text-to-speech function so that you can hear what you’ve written.
  • You can download and install the free version of Ginger on your personal computer from www.gingersoftware.com.
  • Members of staff who would like Ginger installed on their work computer should contact the Service Desk – servicedesk@abdn.ac.uk, 27-3336.

So, if you’d like to hone your proofreading skills why not give it a go! Find out more about Ginger at www.gingersoftware.com.
