Web Development - Service Summary

The Web Design, Authoring, Publishing and Hosting service aims to enhance the UoA presence on the World Wide Web, by providing professional consultation, design and authoring.

The service is available to all staff with a valid staff ID card (including temporary and honorary staff members) and to external clients.

Web Authoring, Design and Publishing

  • DIT designs and maintains the UoA central web pages.
  • DIT provides free consultation, design, and authoring services to UoA departments and sections for core work.
  • DIT can provide a Standard Template (Standard CMS build/install) for a non-core basic web site for £1400. DIT can also provide optional extras on the Standard Template build, costed as follows:
    • Bespoke Design: £1400
    • Flash Banner (Homepage): £875
    • Blog facility: £175
    • News module: £175
    • Events module: £175
    • Image Gallery: £175
    • Hosting (if www.abdn.ac.uk/mysite/): FREE
  • DIT can also provide a design and development service to University departments for non-core work at a rate of £350 per day.

    • HTML and CSS authoring
    • Graphic design
    • Website maintenance
    • Database programming
    • Domain name hosting
    • Discussion forums and chat facilities
    • IT training in XHTML, Dreamweaver and Contribute
    • Log reporting
    • Mailing lists
    • Multimedia
    • PHP/MySQL/CGI/Perl/JavaScript/AJAX programming
    • Secure server for credit card transactions
    • Webcams
    • Virtual tours
    • Blogs

These standard service requests are accessible via the Web Team and are available during core business hours (09:00 - 17:00, Monday - Friday).

  • Updates and additions to the University Central web pages, academic departments or support sections
  • Core website consultation, design and authoring to internal clients
  • Web authoring advice and support
  • Provision of access to the University web site for departmental co-ordinators via FTP, Dreamweaver or Contribute

These additional service requests are accessible via the Web Team and are available during core business hours (09:00 - 17:00, Monday - Friday).

Web design and development schedules will be agreed with customers on a project-by-project basis.
