How to configure the Firefox Browser to use the automatic proxy

The Firefox Web browser (from the Mozilla organisation, www.mozilla.org) is increasing in popularity as the Web browser of choice for many, especially amongst those who appreciate its benefits when set against some of the claimed limitations of its chief competitor, Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser.

To set Firefox to use the automatic proxy configuration

Select the menu Tools and then Options. For Firefox 1.x, click on the General button and then click on the one labelled Connection settings. For Firefox 2.x, click on the Advanced button, then click on the Network tab, next click on Settings. For both versions, select the Automatic proxy configuration URL radio button and enter the URL

http://www.abdn.ac.uk/local/autoproxy.php

into the box beneath the button (note the forward slashes, backslashes (\) will not work!).
