Mission and Strategy

Our core purpose, as a customer driven Directorate of Information Technology, is to deliver world class IT services to enable the University of Aberdeen to generate, explore, and teach ideas.

It is our aspiration to facilitate the University's international ambition through the provision of an IT services infrastructure of global reach. Technology by itself cannot, and never will, be a differentiator for the institution. It is the quality of service provided and the commitment of staff which will deliver this.

The effective utilisation of the services which we provide will support the University in distinguishing itself from its competitors.

In order to do this we shall:

  1. Provide operational excellence through the provision of consistently reliable and functional systems.
  2. Continuously engage, consult and work in partnership with our academic and administrative colleagues in order to establish and fulfil their needs and requirements.
  3. Communicate through effective relationship management in order to provide excellent customer service and delivery according to plan.
  4. Act in a corporately responsible manner and actively participate in initiatives which reduce waste and environmental damage.
  5. Deliver best value to the institution, its staff, researchers and students by effectively managing IT expenditure.
  6. Create competitive advantage through innovation.
  7. Train and develop directorate staff in world class skills by
    • Ensuring that the test of professionalism within the Directorate is related to organisational impact and outcome in addition to technical excellence
    • Communicating & leading at all levels
    • Fostering an environment that encourages & recognises contribution
    • Employing, developing & retaining first-rate performers
  8. Engage actively and enthusiastically with initiatives and collaborations within the HE sector and beyond to assist in the development of new products and services both in Higher Education and in other spheres of activity.
