Changes to anti-virus protection
The University’s site licence for Sophos expires on 12 June 2012 and will not be renewed.
Networked PCs and Macs on campus and University Windows laptops, MacBooks
- We are replacing Sophos on all University owned networked PCs and Windows laptops with Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) and are proposing ClamXav as an alternative anti-virus solution for campus Macs and University owned MacBooks.
- For most PC users, there’s nothing you need to do. We will remove Sophos and install and configure SCEP on your behalf.
- Mac users should follow our guidelines.
- Please look out for email updates over the next few months.
Personal Home PCs, Windows laptops, Macs, MacBooks
- Unlike Sophos, the SCEP licence does not cover personal/home PCs, Windows laptops, Macs and MacBooks belonging to staff and students.
- If you are currently using the University's licensed version of Sophos on your personal/home PC, laptop, or Mac, it is important that you switch to alternative anti-virus software of your choosing before 12 June 2012. If you do not switch, your computer will be at risk from malware and other security threats.
Anti-virus web pages
- We will update our web pages to reflect these changes in due course.
