About Preferences

The level of details displayed in the external and internal versions of the on-line directory may be adjusted to suit the personal preferences of the individual to which they refer. The options currently available are described here. 

Viewing your details

To view your own details, use the Search by name to look for yourself. Assuming you are accessing the directory from the University network, this will be the internal directory listing. (You cannot view the internal directory from elsewhere.) To view your details as they will appear to an external user of the directory, use this External Search.

Changing your preferences

To change your preferences follow the Set Preferences link on the sidebar and type in your userid and password at the prompts. Your new preferences will not take immediate effect. The directory is updated overnight.

1: External directory opt out

If you do not wish your details to be published outwith the University, you may choose to be excluded entirely from the external directory. (This option will be pre-set if you currently opt to have your e-mail address excluded from the internal directory.)

Note re internal directory

There is no provision for staff to opt out of the internal directory. Details for all University staff are automatically included in the internal directory. You may, however, choose to suppress details of your e-mail address(es) or telephone number(s) through preferences (2) and (3) described below. 

Research students are included in the internal directory only if they have an e-mail address. Any research student wishing to be excluded from the internal directory can achieve this by suppressing the display of his or her e-mail address via the preference described below at (2c)

2: E-mail address display options

For each e-mail address you may set your display preferences to one of the following 3 options:

a) display in both external and internal views of the directory
b) display in the internal view of the directory only

c) do not display

3: Telephone number display options

These options are available to staff only; research student phone numbers are not included in the directory. For each phone number (that is not already flagged as 'ex-directory' in the University Exchange) you may set  your display preferences to one of the following 3 options:

a) display in both external and internal views of the directory
b) display in the internal view of the directory only

c) do not display

If you wish to display more than one phone number, you can also set the order in which the numbers will be displayed in the directory. 

4: Non-configurable display items

Details of job title and department are not configurable but, if you believe there is an error in the display of yours, please use the Notify Correction form to give us the details.
