About Name and Job Title

Name display

  • In the Internal directory
Names are displayed in the format:  Surname, Title Initials, e.g. Smith, Mr A.B.

  • In the External directory:
Gender specific titles (Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms) are excluded, e.g. Smith, A.B.
but non gender specific titles (Dr, Prof, Rev, etc.) are retained, e.g.  Reid, Dr A.J.

Note: In this release of the directory we have chosen to display intials only, as we do not yet have the functionailty to let people opt out of having their forenames displayed, or to opt for the display of a middle name instead of the first name. In future releases, we hope to be able to display people's preferred forename.

Job title

  • In the find a person search results, this field will list a person's University appointment and any other roles they have within the University. For most people this is a single entry but, for those with multiple appointments or an institutional role there will be several entries, e.g.

Allen, Dr A. R Senior Lecturer
    Senior Lecturer
    Biomedical Physics & Bioengineering
    Engineering
    Secombes, Professor C. J. Professor
    Head of Department
    Zoology
    Zoology

  • When an * appears appended to the Job Title, this indicates that this person is not a University employee but works in the University in an honorary or associated capacity.

  • For research students, this field is displayed as 'Research Student'.
