About Email Entries E-mail addresses The e-mail addresses in the Directory are all in the format: mailname@abdn.ac.uk These addresses are part of the University's central e-mail service,  administered by the Directorate of Information Systems & Services. Preferred e-mail This is the normal, personal e-mail address through which that person may be contacted. If this column is blank then either that person has no e-mail address or  has asked to be 'ex-directory'. Mail aliases (i.e. alternative addresses which will deliver to the same mailbox) are not included in the directory. Other e-mail An entry in this column, corresponds to an alternative e-mail address, belonging to that person, which has been set up for a specific project or function. Messages sent to this address will be delivered to a different mailbox from that person's preferred e-mail. Such an address should be used only for messages relevant to the project or function for which the alternative e-mail has been set up. For example, someone who looks after a department's Web pages may have an alternative e-mail address specifically for correspondence related to the departmental Web pages; someone who acts as the secretary of a society may have an alternative e-mail address for society correspondence. Making changes To have your 'preferred e-mail' or 'other e-mail' included or excluded from the internal or external directory listing, follow the Set Preferences link on the sidebar. To request a change to your preferred e-mail or to set up automatic forwarding from a central e-mail address to a departmental e-mail address, please contact the Service Desk.
