A new initiative in 2013 to provide funding to support the personal, professional and career development of our researchers. The funding is intended to support activities that are planned and managed by researchers (students and research staff). This could be anything from a careers event to an industry visit or even launching your own journal. The main proviso with this funding is that we can't fund something directly related to your research (e.g. conferences or technical training).
Conference organisation is considered to be research specific but, in some cases, can receive partial funding to cover elements that directly address the impact agenda or careers and transferable skills training. An example of this would be a conference session that looks at knowledge transfer or careers outside of academia.
Applications will be assessed through the Researcher Development Advisory Group which is chaired by the Vice Principal for Research and Knowledge Exchange and includes Heads of Graduate School, College Directors of Research and representatives from administrative sections (Policy, Human Resources and Public Engagement with Research). You will also be required to submit an evaluation report after your project is completed.
Applicants who are planning to use their newly acquired skills in a practical, real-life setting may be interested in ompanion enabling fund offered by the Public Engagement with Research Unit. We welcome linked applications that demonstrate the follow through from skills develoment to practical experience. More information can be found here
