The workshop is one of a series of workshops funded by the Scottish Funding Council (for higher education) led by Professor Tom Rye of Edinburgh Napier University. The workshop covered:

- the contribution of public transport to climate change and economic development,

- the role of public transport in the Climate Change Bill and National Performance Framework (NPF),

- how to balance service delivery and carbon reduction targets for public transport in an uncertain economic climate, and

- future priorities for enhanced public transport systems in Scotland.

Participating in the workshop were a number of policy makers and practitioners in Transport Planning/Policy, creating an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on key issues of public policy in transport.

Professor John Nelson and Dr Jillian Anable from University of Aberdeen, Terri Vogt from First Group and Professor Tom Rye from Edinburgh Napier University held the talk interactively with workshop participants in three sessions spanning from NPF delivery in Scotland for public transport, public transport contribution to the national climate change and identification of mode shift opportunities to meet the CO2 emission reduction target set by Scottish Government.
