Vincent graduated with a medical degree from University College Cork, Ireland, in 1990, from where he later gained a Masters in Medical Sciences degree, in 1994. He trained in psychiatry in Ireland, and in the North of Scotland, with experience of remote and rural mental health services in both countries. He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1997. He has worked as a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with NHS Highland, based in Inverness, since 2002.
As well as an interest in rural mental health, his research interests include the epidemiology of suicidal behaviour and the influences of early life circumstances on mental health in later life.
