Gaener joined the Centre for Rural Health in September 2009 as a Senior Research Fellow to build an expertise in Rural Health Economics Research. In 2011, Gaener took over as the Head of the Centre for Rural Health for the University of the Highlands and Islands partner. Gaener previously worked for a number of years as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of Virology/ Human Disease. More recently, Gaener has gained expertise in rural economic development supporting the Life Science sector and Business R&D activities across the Highlands & Islands region.
