The project will explore outcomes for men screened between 2001-2003 in the Highland Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.  We will use record linkage to examine the outomes of AA screeing and to explore the relationship between place of residence (remore, rural or urban) and health trajectory in this large, predonimantly rural cohort of older men (n8146).  The research will examine how aneurysm-related morbidity and mortality relates to aortic diameter at screening and will explore associations between place of residence and risk of all-cause and case-specific mortality, hospital admissions for coronary heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, stroke, COPD and cancer, adjusted for deprivation and other risk factors.  The findings will inform the planned national aneurysm screeing programme as well as health services for older men in Scotland.
