COST Action 922 began in November 2001 and will run until 2006.

COST Action 922

Main objectives

The main objectives are to assess and report on:

  • hazards posed by amines and amine-related compounds in food
  • benefits of dietary amines and amine-related compounds.
  • recommendations for their concentrations in different European diets.

Within those major objectives there are other more specific questions such as:

  • How are the compounds absorbed from the gut?
  • How are the compounds metabolised in the body?
  • How do the absorbed compounds affect the cells of the body?
  • What interactions occur between amines and macromolecules?
  • What is the tissue specificity of amine-related or -regulated genes or of the underlying signal transduction systems
