Digital Economy is the novel design or use of information and communication technologies to help transform the lives of individuals, society or business. Research will help understand these technologies and why change is needed, what the impacts will be and who will benefit. In this cross-research council area, research can be driven by economic, social or technical need.
Digital Economy research in the College of Physical Sciences spans across a number of research areas including Computing Science, Geography and Transport, as well as areas within the College of Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Life Sciences and Medicine.
Professor John Farrington, leader for the CoPS Digital Economy theme said: ' The Digital Economy is a major cross council programme with real opportunities for the University to build on the success of a number of digital economy research grants including dot.rural and others. To realise this potential it will be important to engage with researchers across the disciplines in the University. I am looking forward to engaging in activities and conversations with colleagues to this end.'
