In April 2010 the College moved to introduce internal peer review procedures for two reasons; to improve success rates for grant applications (particularly for RCUK), and in response to the requirement by RCUK and other important funders to have in place robust internal procedures to ensure high quality of all grant applications. This is part of RCUK's drive to 'manage demand', that is to ensure that institutions rigorously apply their own quality assurance procedures prior to submission, to cut down the number of low quality applications received.
