Richard Wells

Director of Teaching & Learning - Dr Richard Wells

Dr Richard Wells studied Chemistry at the University of Birmingham and completed a PhD from the University of Dundee. He is a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, acted as Deputy Director of Teaching and Learning from 2010-2011 and was appointed Director of Teaching and Learning in 2011.

The Director of Learning and Teaching oversees the accomplishment of the College’s strategic aims and ambitions with regard to learning and teaching at undergraduate level, including, but not limited to, academic mentoring, articulation, recruitment and retention, student experience, teaching quality and best practice, and widening participation.

Professor John Nelson

Director of Research & Commercialisation - Professor John Nelson

Professor John Nelson, a graduate of the University of Liverpool and Newcastle University, was appointed to the Sixth Century Chair of Transport Studies at the University of Aberdeen in 2007 and is the founding Director of the Centre for Transport Research. He was appointed College Director of Research and Commercialisation in 2008.

The Director of Research is the academic lead for the research ambitions of the College, in areas including, but not limited to, the external research funding portfolio, knowledge exchange and commercialisation, principal investigator training and development, research ethics, research impact, and the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Dr Judith Masthoff

Director of the Graduate School - Dr Judith Masthoff

Dr Judith Masthoff studied towards her PhD within the Institute for Perception Research (IPO) at the Eindhoven University of Technology and held positions within Philips Electronics' UK research lab and The University of Brighton before taking up the post at the University of Aberdeen in 2004.

The Director of the Graduate School is responsible for the strategic direction and development of postgraduate affairs in the College, including but not limited to issues regarding doctoral completion and submission rates, monitoring and progression of research students, postgraduate funding strategy, research skills and training, student experience, and student recruitment.

Professor Marian Wiercigroch

Director of Internationalisation - Professor Marian Wiercigroch

Professor Marian Wiercigroch, a graduate of Silesian University of Technology, holds the Sixth Century Chair in Applied Dynamics at the University of Aberdeen and currently oversees the College’s internationalisation activities.

The Director of Internationalisation is responsible for advising the Head of College and the College Executive as to the strategy which will best serves the College’s international ambitions, including supporting colleagues to develop productive relations with partner organisations, providing market intelligence, identifying new international exchange and collaboration opportunities and encouraging a greater culture of internationalisation across the College.
